Minimum Qualifications
National Senior Certificate, Grade 12.
A formal qualification in design is advantageous.
Experience required
A minimum of 3 -5 years related work experience.
Pattern Making and Garment Construction: Must have hands-on experience in pattern making, garment construction, and the ability to work with various fabrics and materials.
Prior experience in researching and identifying fashion trends and the ability to incorporate these trends into designs.
Must have a deep understanding of the target market, consumer preferences, and the competitive landscape.
Must have prior experience in brand development and marketing strategies.
Skills required
Sketching and Illustration: The capability to create detailed fashion illustrations and sketches to communicate design concepts.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for digital sketching and design presentation.
Textile Knowledge:Understanding of different fabrics, textiles, and their properties, as well as how to select and work with various materials.
Technical Drawing:The ability to create detailed technical drawings and specification sheets for manufacturing and production.
Knowledge of Garment Care:Knowledge of care labels, proper care instructions for different materials, and industry standards for garment labelling
Costing and Budgeting:Understanding of the cost implications of design decisions and the ability to work within budget constraints
Presentation Skills:Effective presentation skills to communicate design ideas to clients, teams, or stakeholders.
Knowledge of Fashion History and Trends: An understanding of fashion history, and trends, and the ability to incorporate historical and contemporary influences into designs.
