Full Time Bursary Programme Overview

The Department of Health and Wellness, Annual Performance Plan for Bursaries, have an on-going analysis of education, training and development requirements for specific priority occupational groups. The Department provides bursaries as incentives to train actual and potential employees to meet these needs. There is continuous engagement with relevant higher educational institutions in South Africa, to ensure training is available for specific qualifications and skills needed in the health sector.

The aim of the Full Time Bursary programme

The Programme is aimed at providing the unemployed public, residing in the Western Cape with bursaries (financial aid) to obtain their qualification. Funding is allocated for selected qualifications. This is based on the Western Cape’s healthcare sector needs for a specific period. Funds are limited and therefore, applications go through a selection process to identify deserving candidates. The Community Service project supports this programme to ensure that the necessary experience is obtained during the development period. Once the qualification is obtained bursary holders must apply for available posts within the Western Cape, Department of Health and Wellness. The programme aims to attract qualified persons with the required competencies, knowledge, and skills to join the Department. Bursary holders have an obligation to work back the bursary, by means of employment within the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness. apply here

Health Science Study Fields Bursaries are offered to the following:

Nursing
Medical (MBChB)
Pharmacy
Radiography
Emergency Medical Care
More health science study fields may be added or removed per academic year based on Departmental service delivery needs.
